Hello and Welcome! My name is Gene Crout and I am a professional musician, guitarist, teacher, producer and studio owner.
I began teaching guitar, bass, voice and audio production from my studio, Audio Digital, in Arvada in 2001, but I have been involved in music literally for my entire life. I began singing at age 5, played Trumpet from age 8 to 11, began playing Bass Guitar and taking private lessons at age 11. I began teaching myself Guitar at age 13. I received my bachelor degree in Music Theory and Composition when I was 24 and I have been a professional studio owner since 1997.
I specialize in giving my students exactly what they want, be it learning to play their favorite songs, music theory, soloing and improvisation, reading, ear training, tone – whatever. I have been developing my music programs for over 20 years now and am continually growing and learning with my students. I teach from an ever-growing list of over 1000 songs from the 50’s through today. My students stay with me for up to 10+ years because I keep lessons fun, interesting, engaging and relevant as each student grows with their instrument. Check out the Guitar Programs and Bass, Voice and More links above for more specific information about each program.
13 Reasons why Arvada Guitar is the best choice for Music Lessons in the Denver metro area:
1. Proven success with students.
I have students who have gone on to careers in music, become music teachers, performers and worship leaders themselves. Some of my students have studied just for their own personal enrichment and have no intention of ever performing, either live or on video. And that is all good.
2. Incomparable student retention rate of up to and over 10 years!
Few teachers in Denver metro can match my student retention rate of up to and beyond 10 years. Many of my students stay with me for 3-5 years. Some students have even left, explored other resources and then returned to me because they know I have the breadth of knowledge to keep them learning what they want to know.
3. Fulltime, professional musician.
When you study with me, you are learning from a professional, career musician. I have worked in the music industry for over 25 years. For over 15 years I performed weekly for 500 to 1000 people. I have performed on, recorded, mixed or mastered over 50 commercial CD releases.
4. Bachelor of Music in Theory and Composition.
I earned my Bachelor of Music in Theory and Composition, cum laude, from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL in 1991. Before that I had over 10 years of self-study on guitar, bass and voice. Being both self taught and formally trained provides me the experience to best suit my students needs.
5. Not just a guitar player/bass player/singer.
Being a multi instrumentalist gives me a broader understanding of music and teaching. I play and study electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass guitar, voice, music theory, audio production, and more. But I am not just a musician. I am also a music producer, a studio engineer, a sound mixer for TV and Film, a band leader and a composer. I have one of the most expansive musical backgrounds of any music teacher in Denver. Whatever it is you want to learn, I can teach.
6. Lessons at Arvada Guitar take place in a professional music studio.
Who wants to take guitar lessons in some tiny back closet or boring living room? When you study at Arvada Guitar, you will be in an exciting, inspiring, professional music recording and production studio with every musical tool available to you.
7. Your lessons will be uniquely designed just for you.
No two students are alike. Therefore my teaching approach needs to adjust to each student’s needs, goals and learning style. While I have been developing my guitar programs for over 20 years now, each student receives an individualized learning program.
8. Pioneering new approaches to teaching.
Guitar Inversion™ is a method you will only find at Arvada Guitar. Having played guitar for over 40 years and taught for more than 20 years, I have identified consistencies within the guitar that I have not seen or heard taught anywhere else. Guitar Inversion™ will revolutionize how you see your guitar.
9. Fully credentialed and background checked by the Colorado Department of Education.
In 2011 I decided to get my Substitute Teaching License so that I could better connect with area students and music programs. I enjoy connecting with area school music teachers to make sure I am properly preparing my students to participate in their school music programs.
10. True passion for music and teaching.
My passion for music should be pretty obvious by now, but my extensive teaching experience may be somewhat less obvious. The fact is, I have been in teaching and training positions in almost every job I have ever had, going all the way back to 1987, writing procedure manuals and training employees at companies for which I worked. I now have well over 20,000 hours of private teaching experience as well as additional classroom experience. I design my teaching to inspire and impassion my students as well.
11. Extremely patient, compassionate and nurturing.
There are no “sorry”s at Arvada Guitar. You never need to apologize for struggling with a technique or being too busy to practice during the week. Of course, I want you to practice so that you can improve! But you never need to apologize to me. I understand that you are busy with school or work or life and you never need to apologize or feel bad about that. If you were too busy all week at least you know you are going to get a solid hour of practice with me! I am here to help, guide and support you in any way I possibly can. One recent student even referred to me as her “guitar therapist”, and I am ok with that.
12. 100% committed to student success!
I want to see every student feel the joy and exhilaration of playing music proficiently and I am 100% here for you. I am not just available during your lesson time. I am available to field phone calls, emails and text messages in between your lessons too. I have even gone on field trips to Co Springs with students to help them find the right musical gear! I want to do whatever I can to help you succeed.
